Saptami Shraddha

Saptami Shradh

5 October 2023 Saptami Shradh-

Saptami Shradh Tithi will begin on October 5, 2023 at 05:41 am and will last till 06:34 am on the next day i.e. October 6, 2023.

According to the Hindu calendar, Saptami Shraddha is performed on the Saptami date of the Krishna Paksha of the Pitru Paksha Ashwin month.

There is a tradition of feeding Brahmins on the Saptami Tithi of Pitru Paksha. On this day, Pinddaan is performed on six altars. These 6 altars are August, Krauncha, Matang, Chandra and Kartik. It is a religious belief that offering Pinddaan on these six altars on Saptami Tithi gives peace to the ancestors. The immortality of the soul is mentioned in the Gita. Accordingly, the soul keeps wandering in various incarnations until it joins God. This state is called Agam. In Agam, the soul is satisfied only by Shraddha. That is why Shraddha Saptami is special.

How to perform Saptami Shradh

According to mythological belief, food is served to seven Brahmins on the day of Saptami Shraddha. On this day, the Purushottam form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped. The seventh chapter of the Gita is also recited on this day. Apart from this, Pitru Mantra should be chanted on this day.

Om Adhya Shrutismriti Pranuket, To attain all the happiness and prosperity of this world and to increase the number of children, you should do the same for the gods and humans.

How to perform Pind Daan?

Mix cow's milk, ghee, brown sugar and honey in cooked rice and make a ball. This is considered a symbol of the pinda of ancestors. Then mix white flowers, kusha, barley and black sesame seeds and offer it on the pinda.

On the day of Saptami Shraddha, if someone comes to your house and asks for something, never send him back empty handed. On this day, your ancestors can come to your door in any form. Do not disrespect any person who comes to your house on this day.

Panchbali Bhog

Panchbali bhog has special importance during Shraddha. Always offer Panchbali bhog before feeding a Brahmin. It includes food for cow, dog, crow, deities and ants.
