Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha
Once upon a time, a moneylender had seven sons and a daughter. The daughter was the only sister of her brothers and hence all the brothers loved her very much. Once on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, the moneylender's wife along with her seven daughters-in-law and daughter also kept the fast of Karva Chauth.
At night, when all the sons of the moneylender sat down to eat, they also requested their sister to eat. On this, the sister said that brother, she has also kept the fast of Karva Chauth today and can eat something only after seeing the moon. She can eat food and drink water only after offering Arghya to the moon when it rises.
The moneylender's sons loved their sister very much and were very sad to see their sister's hungry face. Seeing their sister's condition, they thought that if the moon rises soon, their sister can break her fast. For this reason, the moneylender's sons went out of town and climbed a tree there and lit a fire. Coming back home, they said to their sister – Look sister, the moon has risen. Now you can eat food after offering Arghya.
The moneylender's daughter asked her sisters-in-law to break their fast after seeing the moon, but her sisters-in-law refused and said that the moon had not yet risen but her brothers, out of love and seeing their sister hungry, had shown her a fake moon.
The sister ignored the words of her sisters-in-law and obeyed her brothers and offered prayers to the fake moon shown by them and ate food and water. Due to the sister's breaking the fast of Karva Chauth, Lord Ganesha became displeased with the moneylender's daughter. Due to Ganesh ji's displeasure, the girl's husband soon fell ill and all the money left in the house was spent on his treatment.
When the moneylender's daughter realized her mistakes, she felt very remorseful. She prayed to Lord Ganesha for forgiveness and started the Chaturthi fast again as per the rituals. She completed her fast by worshipping the moon as per the rituals and offered water to it and took the blessings of all the people present there.
Seeing the unconditional devotion and faith of the moneylender, Lord Ganesha was pleased with her and gave life to her husband. Also, he freed him from all kinds of diseases and blessed him with wealth, property and prosperity.
