Maa Laxmi Vrat Katha

It is a long time ago. There was a village in which a poor Brahmin lived. He was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He used to worship Lord Vishnu regularly. Once, pleased with the worship of that Brahmin, Shri Hari asked him to ask for a boon. Then the Brahmin expressed his wish that Goddess Lakshmi should reside in his house. Hearing this, Lord Vishnu told the Brahmin the way to attain Goddess Lakshmi.

Vishnuji said that a woman comes in front of the temple and rolls cow dung cakes. Invite her to your home. She is the goddess of wealth. When Lakshmi ji comes to your home, your home will be filled with wealth and grains. Saying this, Vishnu ji went into deep meditation. The next day, at 4 am, a Brahmin came and sat in front of the temple. In a short while, Lakshmi ji came there to roll cow dung cakes.

The Brahmin requested her to come to his house. Hearing this, Lakshmi ji understood that Vishnu ji had asked her to do all this. Then she told the Brahmin to observe the Mahalakshmi fast. Your wish will be fulfilled only after observing this fast for 16 days and offering water to the moon on the 16th night.

After this, after worshipping Lakshmi ji, the Brahmin called the Goddess facing the north direction. Pleased with his penance, the Goddess fulfilled her promise. Since then, this fast is observed with full devotion. By doing this, a person receives the blessings of the Goddess.
