Shri Parshuram Chalisa

।। Doha ।।

Shri Guru Charan Saroj Chhavi, Nij Man Mandir Dhaari।
Sumari Gajaanan Shaarada, Gahi Aashish Tripuraari।।
Buddhiheen Jan Jaaniye, Avagunon Ka Bhandaar।
Baranon Parashuram Suyash, Nij Mati Ke Anusaar।।

Meaning: I bow down to the feet of my Guru, purify my mind, meditate on Lord Ganesha and Goddess Sharda, take the blessings of the Tridev and recite Parashuram Chalisa. O Lord Parashuram! Considering me ignorant, shower your blessings on me.

Jay Prabhu Parashuram Sukh Saagar, Jay Munish Gun Gyaan Divaakar।
Bhrigukul Mukut Bikat Randheera, Kshatriya Tej Mukh Sant Shareera।
Jamadagni Sut Renuka Jaaya, Tej Pratap Sakal Jag Chaaya।
Maas Baisaakh Sit Pachchh Udaara, Tritiya Punarvasu Manuhaara।

Meaning: O Lord Parashuram!! You are the ocean of happiness. You are the God of sages and give divine knowledge to everyone. You are such a great man born in Bhrigukul whose brilliance is like that of a Kshatriya but the body is of a Brahmin. The names of your parents are Renuka and Jamadagni. You were born on the third day of the month of Vaishakh.

Meaning: It was the time of the first prahar and the date was Pradosh. At that time you were born from the womb of mother Renuka at the house of Jamadagni Rishi. At the time of your birth six planets were in the right direction, your zodiac was Gemini and Rahu planet was the one that gave happiness. You were born in the house of Jamadagni Rishi in the form of Brahma himself who had immense brilliance and knowledge.

Meaning: Vedas, Puranas etc. all say that your nature is very short-tempered which is known to the whole world. You are holding a Parashu weapon in your right hand and Vedas and Samhita in your left hand. You are a scholar having all the qualities. You have knowledge of both scriptures and weapons. Your glory is spread in all directions, planets, regions etc.

Meaning: Once for some reason you had fought with Lord Shiva's son Ganesha and at that time you had broken one of Ganesha's teeth in the war. After that Ganesha was named Ekadanta. You had also defeated Kartavirya i.e. Sahastrabahu in the war. When he was about to take away the cow from Jamadagni Ashram, you had stopped him from doing so.

Meaning: When he asked for this divine cow from you, you did not give it to him. Then he fought with you but he was defeated and you were victorious. Seeing this, everyone laughed at him. Then King Kartavirya decided to take revenge and when sage Jamadagni was meditating, he killed him. It was after this that the misfortune of Kartavirya's Haihaya dynasty started.

Meaning: When Lord Parashuram returned to his father's ashram, he saw his father's murder and his mother crying. Seeing this, Lord Parashuram was filled with anger. Then he vowed to take revenge for his father's death by destroying the Kshatriya clan named Haihaya. After this, Parashuram destroyed the Haihaya Kshatriya clan from this earth a total of 21 times.

Meaning: As per the condition of King Janak in the swayamvar of mother Sita, when Lord Shri Ram tried to string the bow of Shiva, it broke. Hearing the sound of breaking of the bow of Shiva, you reached the palace of Janak in full anger and decided to destroy everyone. Then Lord Shri Ram showed you his real form and you became calm after seeing it.

Meaning: In the Dwapar era, you taught Bhishma Pitamah, Guru Dronacharya and Danveer Karna the art of weapons and made them great warriors who played an important role in the Mahabharata war. You were the Guru of those three whose glory spread all over the world.

Meaning: Your glory has been described in all the four ages and all the gods, sages, saints, humans etc. worship you. On the advice of sage Kashyap, you went to Mahendra mountain to do penance. There you attained Samadhi and the whole world bows its head in front of you.

Lalahin Chaari Phal Sharan Tumhaari, Dev Danuj Nar Bhup Bhikhaari।
Jo Yah Padh Shri Parashu Chaalisa, Tinh Anukul Sadaa Gaurisa।
Poornendru Nisi Basar Swaami, Basahu Hriday Prabhu Antaryaami।

Meaning: For you, all the four castes of Hindu religion are the same and you see everyone as the same. All kinds of devotees find shelter in you, whether they are gods, humans, beggars, etc. Whoever recites this Parshuram Chalisa, everything is good for him. Lord Hari resides in his heart.

Parashuram Ko Chaaru Charit, Meetat Sakal Agyaan।
Sharan Pade Ko Det Prabhu, Sadaa Suyash Sammaan।

Meaning: Whoever meditates on Lord Parashuram, the darkness of ignorance ends from his life and knowledge is included in him. Whoever takes refuge in him, Lord Parashuram increases his honor and respect.

Bhrigudev Kulam Bhaanu, Sahasbaahurmardanam।
Renuka Nayan Nandam, Parashumvande Vipradhanam।।

Meaning: O Lord Parashurama! You are born in the Bhrigu clan who killed Sahastrabahu and cut off his thousand arms. You are the son of mother Renuka who is capable of destroying every kind of trouble.
