Chaitra Navratri, the sacred festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and the beginning of the Hindu New Year, will start on 19 March 2026. This nine-day festival provides devotees the opportunity to worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga and seek her blessings.

Significance of Chaitra Navratri This Year

Special Planetary Alignment:
This year, the planetary positions during Chaitra Navratri are considered highly auspicious. Such favorable alignments are believed to help devotees achieve their wishes, success, and prosperity.

Rare Spiritual Combination:
On the first day, Kalash Sthapana will be performed. During this Navratri, Maha Ashtami will be observed on the eighth day, and Ram Navami will be celebrated on the ninth day. This rare combination makes this Navratri even more special and spiritually powerful.

Preparations for Chaitra Navratri

Cleaning the House:
Before Navratri begins, it is recommended to clean the house thoroughly, as Goddess Durga is believed to reside in clean and pure places.

Kalash Sthapana (Sacred Pot Installation):
On the first day, the Kalash is installed during an auspicious time. The required items include a clay pot (kalash), holy water (Gangajal), grains (ashtadhan), sacred thread (kalawa), betel nut, coconut, red cloth (chunri), and other worship materials.

Install the Idol or Image of Goddess Durga:
Place a statue or picture of Goddess Durga in your home temple and worship her with devotion.

Fasting:
During the nine days of Navratri, devotees observe fasting. Depending on personal ability, one may keep a full fast, partial fast, or consume only sattvic (pure vegetarian) food.

Worship Method (Puja Vidhi)

Take a bath early in the morning and perform the worship of Goddess Durga.

Offer a lamp (diya), sweets or food (naivedya), flowers, and fruits to the Goddess.

Chant the mantras of Goddess Durga.

Listen to or read the sacred stories of Navratri.

Perform charity and good deeds as much as possible.

Day 2: Worship of Maa Brahmacharini
Day 3: Worship of Maa Chandraghanta
Day 4: Worship of Maa Kushmanda
Day 5: Worship of Maa Skandamata
Day 6: Worship of Maa Katyayani
Day 7: Worship of Maa Kalaratri
Day 8: Worship of Maa Mahagauri
Day 9: Worship of Maa Siddhidatri

Conclusion of Chaitra Navratri

Navratri concludes with the celebration of Ram Navami.
On this day:

The idol of Goddess Durga is ceremonially immersed.

Kanya Pujan (worship of young girls) is performed.

Devotees distribute prasad among family and community members.
