Salutations to the Supreme Soul
॥ Thus begins the Shri Shiva Sahasranama Stotram ॥
Yasya smaranamatreṇa janmasamsarabandhanāt
By merely remembering whom, one is freed from the bondage of the cycle of birth and death,
Vimuchyate namastasmai Shivāya Prabhaviṣṇave
Salutations to that Lord Shiva, the cause of all creation.
Namah samastabhutānāmādibhūtāya Bhūbhṛte
Salutations to Him, the primordial cause of all beings, the sustainer of the universe,
Anekarooparūpāya Shivāya Prabhaviṣṇave
Salutations to Lord Shiva, who assumes many forms and is omnipotent.
